Can you tell us more about Ria Health and how it helps people who want to drink less alcohol, or even stop for good?
So if a person is finding it hard to control how much they drink, but they also don’t want to go 100% abstinent, what other options do they have?
But if someone does want to go abstinent, these methods can help as well?
How did you get involved with Ria?
In your experience, how would someone know if they are drinking too much and need to seek support to cut back or stop?
TIP: If you’re someone who is experiencing regular hangovers, or find you NEED alcohol to unwind every night or weekend, consider looking into evidence-based treatments and medication therapy. Abstinence is not required, it can be done discreetly and evidence shows that it is effective for many people – resulting in more control over their alcohol consumption, or giving it up more easily without battling alcohol cravings.
Katie Lain is the Director of Community Engagement with Ria Health. Ria’s science-backed platform is for anybody who wants to drink less alcohol and live a better life. Their evidence-based program is delivered through telehealth which means it’s accessible from anywhere using a HIPAA-compliant app.
Ria’s program provides both harm-reduction and abstinence based methods that include physician guided care plans, one-on-one coaching, medication therapy, peer group support and digital tools to track progress. Since Ria began in 2016, they have served over 1500 people and counting who want to improve their relationship with alcohol.
Ria Health is also covered by many major health insurers across the US, and on average, Ria Members see a 75% reduction in their Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels after 12 months in the program.

Sandra is dedicated to changing the conversation for obesity so that anyone living with obesity has access to treatment that is steeped with dignity, respect, and understanding. Sandra knows firsthand the challenges associated with living with obesity. She has lived two lives: one as a morbidly obese woman for 15 years. She experienced a world that was not made for her size, seeking assistance from biased healthcare providers, and dealing with fat-shaming. Since those difficult days, Sandra has transformed her life, losing over 100 pounds and keeping the weight off for 14 years. Obesity is not simply about body weight or body image. Dr. Caitlin Simpson, LCSW, LCADC (MSW Fordham University and DSW Rutgers University) has twelve years of experience specializing in the field of addictions and co-occurring disorders, with a focus on the co-occurrence of trauma.
Dr. Simpson began her career in New Jersey at a private organization offering medicated assisted treatment, then advanced to the Superior Court of New Jersey, where she served as the Substance Abuse Evaluator for both the criminal division and drug court program. Through this position she became highly proficient in the areas of assessment and treatment recommendations in accordance with ASAM Criteria.
In 2010, following completion of graduate school, Dr. Simpson pursued a PhD in Social Work at Fordham University. After completing two years of doctoral research-based education, she transferred to Rutgers University to delve into the Doctorate in Social Work program, which offered a comprehensive advanced practice doctorate in clinical social work. Dr. Simpson then transitioned into various administrative roles as a clinical supervisor, program director and clinical director.
Currently, she serves as the Director of Clinical Operations with Footprints to Recovery. Dr. Simpson believes that through the mindful integration of traditional therapy, evidenced-based practice, and complementary holistic approaches, we can restore the well-being of the whole person: mind, body, brain, and spirit.
