Listen to interview with host Eric Michaels and guest Dr. Dominique Vonador discuss the following:How did you get into the field of Acupuncture? Can you tell me and our listeners what Acupuncture really is?What are some of the common ailments that you see today? In today’s view on medicine, do you see a lot of resistance in the acceptance of Acupuncture? Is Acupuncture safe and are there any side effects?
Duration: 7:32
Dr. Dominique Vonador, DOM, LAc is a NCCAOM Board Certified Acupuncture Physician, graduating from East West College of Natural Medicine in Sarasota, FL. She is a self-motivated and multi-tasked Master Degreed Acupuncture Professional with extensive applied medical training and industry exposure in Traditional Chinese Medical Theory. She has demonstrated a history of successful patient care and treatment administration while formulating pragmatic and effective solutions in critical and fast paced environments.
Dr. Vonador likes to think of herself as being athletic; waking at 5:30 in the morning to run 2 miles and then end with a little weight lifting is an average Monday morning for her. She ran track and field in college at Florida State University, graduating with her Bachelor's degree in Biology. While working at the local hospital, she became distraught at the level of care the patients received, with medication allotments being the major course of treatment. From then on she knew there had to be an adjunctive therapy treatment option that was less painful, easy for the patient, but very efficient. Acupuncture proved to be the answer. Now, here she is 5 years later, continuously making a difference in the community with Oriental Medicine.
Dr. Vonador's husband of 4 years and their 3 year old son are her main driving force with God as the head. Without any of them, she does not believe she would be the woman she is today.

Dr. Randall Porter, Neurosurgeon with Barrow Neurological Institute and Founder of The Medical Memory, a tablet-based service for video recording doctor-patient consultations joins eHealth Radio and the Neurology and Brain Health Channels.
Listen to interview with host Eric Michaels and guest Dr. Randall Porter discuss the following:Dr. Porter, you are a neurosurgeon based in Phoenix, Arizona and we are discussing a product you developed ----The Medical Memory. Apparently patients often fail to understand, misinterpret or forget what was communicated during a doctor’s appointment. Are there specific reasons for this?So you developed The Medical Memory as a means to recall the conversation and diagnosis in a medical appointment. Please explain how The Medical Memory works and the benefit. Is The Medical Memory useful for patients and physicians in ALL medical appointments?Has there been a concern about doctor-patient confidentiality with The Medical Memory? You are currently utilizing The Medical Memory at Barrow Neurological Institute and a couple of other medical facilities. Are you having success introducing The Medical Memory across the country?
Duration: 10:27
A tablet-based service, The Medical Memory by ClarIT-MD™, utilizes a video camera positioned in the examining room to record discussions, imaging, and demonstrations ensuring that the shared information is commemorated for personal recall as well as sharable with family and loved ones.
For those patients who choose to utilize The Medical Memory service, a small video camera in the examination room records the session with the doctor including imagery and demonstrations. After the visit, the patient receives an e-mail with a link to a secure webpage containing the videos that can be viewed from any device with internet capability. The patient can then review the session and if desired, share with family members through the provided link.
In 2008, local neurosurgeon with Barrow Neurological Institute, Dr. Randall Porter, started conception on The Medical Memory. Although he knew his patients were intently listening to the information he was providing, he knew that many were not comprehending all the facts during an initial visit and that surprisingly two people in the examining room will not decipher the information in the same manner. This is particularly true in situations in which the information imparted is of a very serious nature and perhaps life threatening. Dr. Porter was intent on creating a state-of-the-art product that also upholds the doctor-patient confidentiality relationship.
“I view The Medical Memory as a trail blazer in the field of medicine and patient care,” says Dr. Randall Porter. “As a neurosurgeon, I understand how important it is for patients to fully comprehend their diagnosis and prognosis. Technology has made it possible for physicians to offer a secure, nonintrusive, and easy-to-use application to recall precisely what was communicated which in many cases benefits an entire family.”

Listen to interview with host Eric Michaels and guest Dr. Karen Davis discuss the following:You just were a panelist in New York talking about Where Did Our Compassion Go?
Children, Adults and the Loss of the Human-Animal Bond and you wrote a book review on a similar subject – the emotional lives of animals and children. This is a very important subject. Can you tell us more about it?What happens between childhood and adulthood that causes most children to outgrow their primal delight in and empathy with animals and become detached, callous and indifferent toward them? You regard farmed animal sanctuaries as vitally important for the animals, the caregivers and the public, who otherwise have little or no way of meeting and learning about chickens, turkeys, cows, pigs, goats and other animals. Can you explain your thoughts about that?Your review of William Crane’s book, The Emotional Lives of Animals and Children includes the thoughts of educators, psycho-analysts and ethologists. Would you recommend this book for parents?
