Melissa Gonzales, Managing Director of Medela USA business unit, the largest of the Medela group joins eHealth Radio and the Health Care and Health News Channels.
Medela concentrates on two business units: "Human Milk" and "Healthcare". The “Human Milk” division is leading in the development and production of breast milk feeding products, the "Healthcare" division provides progressive solutions that make it easier for healthcare professionals to care for their patients.
Listen to host Eric Dye & guest Melissa Gonzales discuss the following:
I understand you also has a nursing background which I am sure is quite helpful for your role at Medela.
I didn’t realize that Medela had products beyond the Breast Feeding range. Tell me a little bit about your Healthcare division.
How does Medela help these patients with their diabetic ulcers?
So NPWT helps these patients’ wounds heal more quickly? What’s different about your product?
So to clarify, you have a product which provides the reliability of normal NPWT but yet provides the convenience of a personal device?
Let`s get into the details of your portfolio again - you offer a "classical" re-usable pump as well, correct?
Sounds all quite practical to me. Here comes to my mind: if everything is so easy… can I change the wound dressing on my own as a patient?
Are there really synergies between the Human Milk and the Healthcare segment?
Melissa Gonzales serves as managing director of the Medela USA business unit, the largest within the Medela group. In this position, she manages both the Human Milk and Healthcare businesses. The “Human Milk” division is leading in the development and production of breast milk feeding products, the "Healthcare" division provides progressive solutions that make it easier for healthcare professionals to care for their patients.

Measuring Acid/Alkaline Balance and Why It’s Important
Friday May 19, 2017
Friday May 19, 2017
Functional medicine pioneer and thought-leader, Dr. Russell Jaffe, MD, PhD, CCN joins eHealth Radio and the Health Care & Health News Channels. Dr. Jaffe is the Senior Fellow at Health Studies Collegium & Founder of PERQUE Integrated Health and ELISA/ACT Biotechnologies.
Listen to interview with host Eric Michaels and guest Dr. Russell Jaffe discuss the following:
You frequently speak about acid/alkaline balance. Can you explain what you mean by acid/alkaline balance and why it is important?
So how do you recommend someone go about determining how acid or alkaline is balanced or not?
What is the ideal pH?
If someone is not at the goal of 6.5-7.5 when they measure their first AM urine pH, what do you suggest they do?
As a physician and scientist who aspired to be comprehensive, objective, empiric and experiential, Dr. Jaffe started his career searching for deeper understanding, wisdom, evidence and insight in mechanisms of health. Through intense curiosity and learned skepticism, Dr. Jaffe sought to debunk the best-known advocates of a variety of health promotion and healing systems. What started as a journey to disprove holistic forms of care became a rich educational experience that transformed Dr. Jaffe into a student and then researcher in such areas a Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture, active meditation, homeopathy, and manipulative arts.
Motivated by his personal transition, Dr. Jaffe went on to reinvent himself professionally by starting the Health Studies Collegium, a think tank that focuses on sustainable solutions to global health needs, with his fellow colleagues. For the last 30 years, Dr. Jaffe has advocated a system that treats people not diagnoses, cause not consequence, and promotes long term sustainable solutions as an alternative to a system dominated by prescriptive, symptom suppressive solutions. Dr. Jaffe’s cumulative experiences enabled him to take his efforts one step further and build PERQUE Integrative Health, a company that offers the world scientifically proven, integrative health solutions that speed the transition from sick care to healthful caring.
Dr. Jaffe’s practical contributions to clinical medicine and to healthcare policy focus on functional, predictive tests and procedures designed to improve the precision of both diagnosis and of treatment outcomes; he has authored nearly 100 articles on the subject. Examples of his contributions to molecular biology and clinical diagnostics include:
Early colon cancer detection tests
Predictive tests of cardiovascular health and function based on changes in blood clotting and systemic repair status
Quantification of the number of concurrent platelet binding sites needed for collagen to activate platelet-induced blood clotting
Identification of the mechanism that controls collagen activation of platelets
Antigen ultra-purification for use in high sensitivity immunology assays
Mechanism of connective tissue cross-link inhibition by d-penicillamine
Predictive tests of immune function and hypersensitivity / delayed allergy
Predictive tests of nutritional / metabolic function
Honored as an International Scientist of 2003 by the IBC, Oxford, England, UK for his lifetime contributions to clinical medicine, biochemistry, immunology, methodology, and integrative health policy, Dr. Jaffe is appreciative of the recognition of his peers. He currently serves on the American Board of Clinical Metal Toxicology and coordinates its certification training program. America’s Top Physicians 2005, Who’s Who in America; Who’s Who in Medicine and Science; Who’s Who in Business and Engineering all have included him in recognition of his contributions to science and community.
Dr. Jaffe is the recipient of the Merck, Sharp & Dohm Excellence in Research Award, the J.D. Lane Award, and the U.S.P.H.S. Meritorious Service Award. He teaches and lectures widely on nutritional immunology and treatment guidelines for chronic autoimmune and immune dysfunction syndromes and has helped elucidate the causes and consequences of immune defense and repair functions in health and disease.

Reese Feuerman, the Chief Financial Officer at ConnectYourCare, a leading provider of consumer-directed health care account solutions joins eHealth Radio and the Health Care & Health News Channels.
Listen to interview with host Eric Michaels and guest Reese Feuerman discuss the following:
I understand ConnectYourCare recently conducted a survey of more than 14,000 employees and 250 employers. In that survey you asked consumers what they are doing to try to offset the high costs of health insurance. What was their response?
Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) are another widely-used method of paying for healthcare needs. Did the survey reveal any trends when it comes to FSAs?
Any other surprising findings that came out of the survey?
I have an article here that just ran in BenefitsPro on something called the Healthcare Stack. Can you explain what this is to our listeners and what they need to know?
In your last response you mentioned that the Trump Administration might increase HSA contributions. Obviously there is a lot of uncertainty in the healthcare and benefits space right now, for both employers and consumers – and understandably, it's hard to make decisions when so much is up in the air. But, what should listeners be doing right now?
As CFO, Reese Feuerman oversees all areas of finance for ConnectYourCare, including strategy, financial planning, accounting, tax, and treasury as well as human resources. He brings 25 years’ experience in financial leadership as well as public company experience to ConnectYourCare and serves as Secretary to our Board of Directors.
Prior to joining ConnectYourCare in 2013, Reese had a long career at Constellation Energy, where he served as Vice President of Operational Finance, Vice President of Finance, Treasurer, Chief Accounting Officer, and Controller.
Previously, Reese was Vice President and Controller for XO Communications. He began his career with KPMG and MCI Communications.Reese is a Certified Public Accountant and is a graduate of the University of Maryland at College Park.
He serves on the Advisory Board for the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland and the Dean’s Advisory Council for the Merrick School of Business at the University of Baltimore. He is on the Baltimore Board of Directors for the American Heart Association and the Howard County Spending Affordability Advisory Committee.
Previously, Reese served on Northwestern Mutual’s 2011 Policy Owner’s Examining Committee and with the 2011 Baltimore City U.S. Conference of Mayors.
