YOU-TURN: Changing Direction in Midlife
Wednesday Jun 07, 2017
Wednesday Jun 07, 2017
Dr. Nancy Irwin, a Los Angeles-based therapist and clinical hypnotist, & the author of the nonfiction YOU-TURN: Changing Direction in Midlife, a collection of “over 40 stories of people over 40” chronicles of successful transitions in people’s personal and or professional lives again joins eHealth Radio and the Personal Development Channel.
Listen to interview with host Eric Michaels and guest Dr. Nancy Irwin discuss the following:
What is a you-turn?
What made you want to change or take a detour in your life?
Was there any specific defining moment when it was blindingly clear what path you were to take?
Did you have any negative/limiting beliefs or obstacles to overcome?
How did you change your programming? How long did that take?
Did you have a support system?
What kept you going?
Would you do it over again if you had to?
What advice do you have for those considering making a transition in mid-life?
Any advice to others who are in that fearful stage?
Originally from Atlanta, where she trained as an opera singer, Dr. Nancy Irwin moved to New York City in 1985 to pursue a career as a stand-up comedian. She worked all over the country and abroad, and moved to L.A. in 1994 when she heard that Hollywood needed more blondes…Dr. Irwin experienced an epiphany when she began volunteer work for Children of the Night, a shelter for sexually abused children in Los Angeles. This work not only waked up the healer in her, but also allowed her to begin healing her own adolescent sexual abuse at the hand of a clergyman. It prompted her to pursue a doctorate in psychology, at the age of 44, and to specialize in the prevention and healing of child sexual abuse. She went on to write the non-fiction, YOU-TURN: CHANGING DIRECTION IN MIDLIFE, to inspire others that it is never too late to live a life you love. A pre-licensed psychologist and clinical therapeutic hypnotist, Dr. Irwin is in private practice in Los Angeles, is a primary therapist on staff at Seasons Recovery Center in Malibu and is also a busy public speaker. She’s a frequent media guest for a variety of psychological issues, including reinvention, having appeared on Anderson Cooper, The Doctors, and more. Dr. Irwin is a member of the Los Angeles County Psychological Association, the Southern California Society of Clinical Hypnosis, and the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers.You-Turn: Changing Direction in Midlife (Amazon, 2008) was her first book, and she is honored to be featured with Deepak Chopra and Kenneth Blanchard in ROADMAP TO SUCCESS (Amazon, 2011). As well, she co-authored BREAKING THROUGH! STORIES OF HOPE AND RECOVERY (Amazon, 2017). These books are all available on Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble.com.

Are you getting enough omega-3s?
Thursday Jun 01, 2017
Thursday Jun 01, 2017
Dr. Bill Harris, an internationally recognized omega-3 expert and Professor of Medicine at Sanford School of Medicine, University of South Dakota & the President and CEO of OmegaQuant joins eHealth Radio and the Health News, Nutrition & Supplement Channels.
Listen to interview with host Eric Michaels & guest Dr. Bill Harris discuss the following:
What are omega-3s and where can you get them?
Why are omega-3s important for our health?
How do we know if we are getting enough omega-3s and what is an optimal level?
Why do you consider the omega-3 index test the ‘new cholesterol’ test?
Where can our listeners get more information?
SUMMARY: Low omega-3 levels are one of the most common and most easily corrected nutritional deficiencies in the world. Increasing the intake of oily fish and/or using omega-3 supplements will quickly and safely increase the Omega-3 Index into healthier zones. I think that the Omega-3 Index test will play a critical role in helping consumers take control of their own health and wellness. This simple at-home test requires only 1 drop of blood and enables people to identify a low omega-3 level. Armed with that information, they will be able to easily correct and then maintain healthy levels of omega-3s throughout their life.
Dr. Bill Harris is an internationally recognized expert on omega-3 fatty acids and how they can benefit patients with heart disease. He obtained his PhD in Human Nutrition from the University of Minnesota, and did post-doctoral fellowships in Clinical Nutrition and Lipid Metabolism with Dr. Bill Connor at the Oregon Health Sciences University. His interest in omega-3 fatty acids began with his postdoctoral work when he published his first study on the effects of salmon oil on serum lipids in humans (1980). Since that time he has been the recipient of five NIH grants for studies on the effects of omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) on human health. He has over 190 publications relating to omega-3 fatty acids in medical literature and was an author on two American Heart Association scientific statements on fatty acids: “Fish Consumption, Fish Oil, Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Cardiovascular Disease” (2002), and “Omega-6 Fatty Acids and Risk for Cardiovascular Disease” (2009) both published in the journal Circulation. Dr. Harris is a Professor in the Department of Medicine in the Sanford School of Medicine at the University of South Dakota, and the President and CEO of OmegaQuant.
