Wednesday Oct 03, 2018
Dr. Robert Hayden, DC, PhD, a Chiropractor from Griffin, Georgia, who is also a delegate of the American Chiropractic Association joins eHealth Radio and the Chiropractic & Health News Channels. ACA represents members of the chiropractic profession nationwide and advocates for issues that are important to chiropractors and their patients.
Listen to interview with host Eric Michaels and guest Dr. Robert Hayden discuss the following:
We hear a lot about how physical activity can benefit our cardiovascular system, help us lose weight and get fit. But how does movement help our bones, muscles and joints—also known as the musculoskeletal system?
Why does moving get harder as we age? Can we prevent or slow down the aging process on our bones, muscles and joints?
In your experience, what are the top reasons why people aren’t moving more?
For years we were told to restrict physical activity when we had back pain. Why was that bad advice? How does movement help people heal?
How can people get moving? What are some of the best activities for those who may be largely inactive right now?
Dr. Robert Hayden maintains a private practice in Griffin, Georgia, just south of Atlanta. Dr. Hayden is a past president of the Georgia Chiropractic Association and was named the organization’s "Chiropractor of the Year" in 2006.
Prior to receiving his doctor of chiropractic degree, Dr. Hayden was a cardiovascular clinical nurse specialist. He devoted 18 years to the nursing profession, serving as executive director of the Mississippi Nurses’ Association, and as a registered lobbyist and continuing education consultant.
Dr. Hayden holds bachelor’s degrees in chemistry and nursing, and received his master’s degree in nursing from the University of Alabama. He also holds a PhD from the University of Mississippi and in 1995 received his doctor of chiropractic degree from Life University.

Simplifying foot taping to provide optimal arch support and pain relief

Lori Coates, Founder of the QUICK TAPE Foot Support Strap, designed by Coates and her son Chris, that implifies foot taping to provide optimal arch support and pain relief in a single, easy-to-use strap joins eHealth Radio and the Foot Health and Health News Channels.
Listen to interview with host Eric Michaels and guest Lori Coates discuss the following:
What exactly is plantar fasciitis, what causes it and are certain people more prone to it?
Why is plantar fasciitis so notoriously hard to treat?
What treatment methods are available, and how well do they work?
What can someone do to prevent plantar fasciitis?
How does the QUICK TAPE strap work?
Lori Coates is the Founder of Support the Foot and co-inventor of the QUICK TAPE Foot Support Strap, an innovative, easy-to-apply product that provides instant support and fast relief from plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, shin splints, and other types of foot and ankle pain. After doctors had told Lori’s son Chris that surgery was the only option to treat his severe plantar fasciitis, Chris and Lori consulted with a podiatrist, who taped his foot as a temporary measure. Much to their surprise, Chris experienced dramatic relief just from the taping. While taping worked, it was a tedious, time-consuming process to tape Chris’s foot every day. Lori and Chris set out to design a simpler, more comfortable alternative that would provide the same level of relief as foot taping done at a podiatrist’s office. Support The Foot was born, with QUICK TAPE as its flagship product.Based on the clinically proven Low Dye taping method, QUICK TAPE straps dramatically simplify the foot taping process, letting patients tape their own feet effectively at home without the time and expense of a trip to the podiatrist. Each strap is made from durable medical grade cloth athletic tape and can be applied in a matter of seconds. Since launching Support The Foot in 2016, podiatrists, sports medicine doctors and athletic trainers in 19 states and 4 countries have incorporated QUICK TAPE into their practices.
QUICK TAPE Foot Support Straps are also available for online purchase at www.supportthefoot.com.

Listen to interview with host Eric Michaels & guest Sepi Aeen discuss the following:
What is Myofascial Release Therapy?
What is fascia and what causes fascial restrictions?
How is this different/better than traditional physical therapy?
Does Myofascial Release target only the physical aspects of pain or emotional as well?
What are some common conditions that can be treated for men, women & children?
Sepi Aeen is a graduate of California State University Northridge (CSUN). She holds two Bachelor degrees in Health Education and Physical Therapy and a Master's degree in Physical Therapy. She is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and is licensed in the State of California since 1997.
Sepi has worked in the field of Physical therapy since 1989. She has practiced in several outpatient, orthopedic and hospital settings. She opened her own private outpatient practice in September 1999 in order to provide her patients with the high quality, individualized treatment that they deserve. It didn't take long for Sepi to realize there was limited improvement with her patients using conventional physical therapy. She attended many continuing education courses and seminars in order to improve her ability to help her patients. It wasn't until she discovered John Barnes' Myofascial Release (MFR) Approach® in 2001 that she found her passion and purpose in life. Since then she has completed over 1,000 hours of MFR seminars nationwide, and as an instructor has assisted in advanced seminars with John F. Barnes and his team. Sepi continues to attend MFR seminars as well as educate her patients and therapists on the benefits of MFR. Physicians affiliated with Cedars Sinai, USC and Providence Tarzana Hospitals have asked Sepi to speak on the benefits of Myofascial Release.
Over the next eight years, she envisioned a peaceful and serene healing center for her patients. After a long search, she found her desired location. The residential space is a shining gem in the midst of a stressful, fast-paced and busy city in Los Angeles.
In March of 2011, twelve years after opening her first practice, Sepi realized her long term dream of opening an MFR healing center. Sepi became the founder and president of From the Heart Physical Therapy, Inc., the only Myofascial Release Treatment Center in Los Angeles County.
From The Heart Physical Therapy is an authentic and positively energized place of healing where everyone is treated with love and respect. Sepi and her team are dedicated to helping each patient return to a balanced and healthy life they deserve.

Dr. Christine Goertz, the Senior Scientific Advisor for the American Chiropractic Association, the leading professional association representing chiropractors in the United States joins eHealth Radio and the Chiropractor & Health News Channels.
Listen to interview with host Eric Michaels & guest Dr. Christine Goertz discuss the following:
What is the Choosing Wisely campaign and how can it help chiropractic patients achieve the best care possible?
Two of ACA’s recommendations are related to reducing X-ray exposure. Can you tell me more about that? What do patients need to know?
The third recommendation says to avoid using therapies like heat, cold, electrical stimulation and ultrasound alone. Why is that? Many people find that those are quick and easy ways to find pain relief.
The fourth recommendation deals with chronic pain and mental health. Tell us more about that recommendation...and about the connection between chronic pain and conditions such as depression and anxiety.
The last recommendation cautions against long-term use of very common items -- lumbar supports or lumbar braces – for the treatment or prevention of low-back pain. How are these items helpful for acute pain but maybe less so for long-term conditions?
Where can patients go to find a good chiropractor?
Dr. Christine Goertz, DC, PhD, currently chairs the American Chiropractic Association’s Committee on Quality Assurance and Accountability. Goertz is also the Vice Chancellor for Research and Health Policy at Palmer College of Chiropractic and Chief Executive Officer of the Spine Institute for Quality (Spine IQ.)

In March 2017, Goertz accepted the prestigious Scott Haldeman Award for Outstanding Research by the World Federation of Chiropractic on behalf of the Palmer College Research Team for conducting a large-scale, multi-site clinical trial which studied the effectiveness of chiropractic care for active-duty military personnel with low-back pain. For over 25 years, Goertz has addressed multidisciplinary science and health policy issues at the state and federal levels, and has served as a member of the American Medical Association’s Measurement Advisory Committee and a program officer of the NIH National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH), where she managed a portfolio focused on musculoskeletal disease, pain, and health services research.
