Listen to interview with host Eric Michaels & guest Marcia Deutsch discuss the following:
- What is YO?
- What is the difference between men testing their sperm count v men testing for their motile sperm count?
- How did you create an at home, home test kit incorporating Smartphone technology?
- How do you marry the two fields of health and technology?
Marcia Deutsch is CEO of Medical Electronic Systems (MES), the creator of YO, the first home sperm test powered by a smartphone platform. YO is an interactive sperm testing app that uses smartphone technology to analyze and report men’s motile sperm concentration with an easy-to-use at-home sperm testing kit. YO is the first consumer product offered by MES, which makes commercial-grade automated semen analyzers for hospitals and independent laboratories. YO is designed to help consumers access affordable at-home motile sperm testing to better assist them to make informed decisions about their reproductive health.
MES is aglobal medical device company and is widely respected in the industry as the gold standard in comprehensive automated semen analysis. The company has been an established manufacturer of commercial-grade automated semen analyzers for the past 20 years, and is wholly owned by Marcia and her husband, Gabriel Deutsch.
Marcia has a unique career background, combining medical expertise as a registered nurse with years of entrepreneurial success. MES is her second successful business venture. Prior to MES, Marcia was the founder and CEO of MedCap Medical Cost Management, a company that provided hospital bill auditing services to major health insurance companies. Marcia founded MedCap in 1988 and grew the company to become the leading medical bill-auditing firm in the Western United States. She eventually sold MedCap in 1999 to Healthcare Recoveries, Inc. a public company.
Previous to MedCap, Marcia worked as a Registered Nurse (RN) with a nursing degree from L.A. County USC Medical Center. Her strong core background in medicine and experience in a variety of areas of the healthcare industry inspired her to become an entrepreneur in the medical services field.
Marcia’s unique management style is based on creating a family-like work environment, making strong investments in people, cross training employees to expand their skills, encouraging flexible hours and work locations, creating ongoing reconfigurations of work teams, and enjoying fun times and laughter every day at work. “Like any CEO, I can get really tough and demanding when our company results are on the line, but I truly have a warm, soft-hearted, humorous and caring side that is really genuine,” said Marcia. “And, I always believe in setting a good example and building credibility as the leader, because no job is too small to be worthy of a high level of performance. Being a CEO is not about glory and material rewards for myself, it’s about building a great and solid place to work that will provide for everyone’s livelihood in the future.”
