Sunday Aug 11, 2013
Dr. Linda Miles, Vice President and Chief Formulator for Derma E, the pioneer of vitamin-rich, high-performance antioxidant skincare products joins eHealth Radio once again & the Skin Care Channel.
Listen to interview with host Eric Michaels & guest Dr. Linda Miles discuss the following:What are the most common problem skin issues? What natural ingredients can help? And, how do they help? What is the definition of natural skincare? What would you recommend for the listener that has dry itchy skin? What are some other lifestyle tips that can help?Duration: 6:09Dr. Linda Miles, DOM, Vice President and Formulator of derma e®, has blended her expertise in complementary health care and biotechnology for over three decades, pioneering the development of innovative, high-performance natural personal care products.
As a health practitioner and business leader in the industry, Miles has been at the forefront of the cultural shift to natural health solutions. “People still ask me what the benefit of using natural products is, and I always respond that ‘nature knows best’,” Miles says. “The power of nature is pretty amazing, and we often can’t re-create that complexity and balance in a lab by using just synthetic ingredients. Nature provides us with healing agents that are superior in performance to chemical alternatives—antioxidants are our best example of that. Many people were under the misconception that ‘natural’ means a product is not as strong. We’re changing that ideology and have proven time and again, via scientific channels, that natural can be even more effective than man-made.”
As part of her lifelong passion in holistic health, Miles received status as a Doctor of Oriental Medicine (DOM) from the state of New Mexico. She also earned her Masters Degree in Oriental Medicine from Emperors College of Traditional Oriental Medicine and is a Licensed Acupuncturist. Once a week, Miles donates her time giving Chinese herb and acupuncture treatments to MEND clients. MEND, Meet Each Need with Dignity, is a non-profit organization that helps relieve the effects of poverty through a holistic and humanitarian approach.
In Miles spare time, she enjoys horseback riding, hiking, camping, waterskiing, and organic gardening with red worm compost. With a passion for animals, she also loves spending time with her horses, dogs and cats, and raising Chinese Silkies, a breed of chicken named for its unique silky feathers.
Miles and her husband Ron live on a three-acre ranch in Acton, California surrounded by animals. They have two daughters, Sonny and Kristy, who share her interest in science and healing. Their older daughter Sonny graduated from MIT, spent two years in the Peace Corp in Paraguay and is currently a medical resident at UCSF. Their younger daughter Kristy is a recent graduate from Tufts University and is currently a licensed DVM who resides in Massachusetts.

Your diet can effect your skin tone and eyelashes with Isabell Daniel
Saturday Jun 08, 2013
Saturday Jun 08, 2013
Isabell Daniel a licensed Esthetician, eyelash extensionist and Founder of Kalliste Clean Beauty Inc. that was created to give you an opportunity to receive customized services that suits your lifestyle and skins needs with the ultimate goal to enhance your natural beauty joins eHealth Radio and the Skin Care Channel.
Listen to interview with host Eric Michaels & guest Isabell Daniel discuss the following:
Why do some people have beautiful even toned skin and others have awful skin?
Can my diet effect my skin tone and eyelashes? What foods can I eat to help my skin and lashes?
What is the advantage and or disadvantage of using organic natural skincare products opposed to non natural products?
A lot of people don't want to get facials or peels because they are afraid it will make them break out. Why would this occur and how can we prevent this from happening?
Eyelash extensions ----why are they becoming so popular? Why are there so many mixed opinions about them?
How long do they last?
Are extensions an anti-aging tool?
What prompted a successful, Licensed financial marketing assistant in New York City to pack it all in, move to Chicago, and pursue a career as a Licensed esthetician whose specialty is eyelash extensions?
“I’ve been obsessed with eyes and eyebrows and eyelashes since I was thirteen,” says Isabell Daniel, 31. Daniel was born with a Frida Khalo-like unibrow that, as she tells it, stopped a 12-year-old-would-be crush in his tracks. “It made me self-conscious and sad.”
Since then, Daniel has pursued a passion for skin care, make-up, and, yes, eyebrows and eyelashes. She worked in a series of salons and spas to learn her trade, did make-up for more weddings than she cares to remember, and honed her skills even when she worked fulltime in financial marketing.
Once relocated in Chicago, Daniel, went back to school to become a licensed Esthetician. She held a variety of jobs during the day and interned in spas at nights and weekends for over 3 years .
Daniel says, "a guitarist doesn't start out playing the guitar and getting paid immediately to perform live shows, but through great practice and dedication eventually they will get to perform live shows and feel satisfaction, and gratitude doing so."
Daniel, was getting burnt out, working seven days a week three different jobs which were unfulfilling in all areas, plus one internship, still unable to make ends meet. She was feeling trapped and hopeless. One day she woke up with a new idea. She decided to sell her high end corporate clothing to a second hand store and use the money to incorporate Soul Marketing/Soul Beauty which morphed into Kalliste Clean Beauty once she was able to garner a steady clientele.
Daniel, started out riding her bike to peoples homes or treating them in her kitchen. Today, Daniel has two locations she is currently working out of wicker park and Lincoln Park. “Eyes are the window to the soul,” Daniel affirms. “I can make my clients feel better about themselves, more confident, more feminine. That gives me great joy and a sense of purpose."

The importance of exfoliation with Kirsten Corcoran of Larenim
Friday Mar 08, 2013
Friday Mar 08, 2013
Kirsten Corcoran, Founder and Director of Larenim Cosmetics and Skin Care Company who has 29 professional years in the Natural Products Industry, 26 year owner of a retail natural products store joins eHealth Radio & the Skin Care Channel.
Listen to interview [audio player below] with host Eric Michaels & guest Kirsten Corcoran discuss the following:
Larenim originally was solely a makeup company. What are some of the more recent products that Larenim has introduced?
How do you choose what products to bring to market?
How do you conceptualize the products you develop?
What are some of the key aspects that makes Larenim products outstanding or otherwise different than other skin care products on the market?
What do you think would surprise skin care consumers the most about your role in the development of Larenim products?
Kirsten Corcoran has worked 28 years in the Natural Product’s Industry, 22 of them as an owner of a health food and supplement store and before that as a sale’s clerk in various health food stores around Columbus, Ohio. In addition to running her store, she was busy raising 5 children. As a busy mother and entrepreneur (and a vain one at that!), she found herself struggling day to day because of the variety of skin care issues she was faced with. She was a woman who in effort to be the best that she can be, ate meticulously, took supplements but just hadn’t been able to maintain a clear complexion or find a cosmetic line that suited her healthy lifestyle.
Since she was 13, she has experienced chronic acne, and she's had rosacea since turning 30. Being a typical self-conscious teenage girl, she looked to the cosmetic industry to help conceal her troubled complexion. To her disappointment, she found that although everything she tried would cover her breakouts, by the end of the day they would be worse.
By the time she reached her twenties, she noticed her pores had expanded, so she decided to use more talc based powder to cover them. When she entered her thirties, and she was in the 90's and the cosmetic industry had made advances... or so she thought. She tried makeup promising to be non-acnegenic and suitable for sensitive skin. However, the breakouts continued. Could prominent cosmetic companies be deceptive in their marketing?
Her breakthrough finally came after a week with the flu, using no makeup, and finding her complexion clearer than ever. She began questioning the marketing of the cosmetic industry.
She researched makeup and ingredients, and found that talc, which is the basis of most makeup, expands the pore wall and is similar to asbestos in structure. Kirsten found that "oil free" is designed to appeal to the trusting majority who don't understand that some of the man made oil substitutes are even worse.
She learned there's an alternative. Mineral makeup. For Kirsten, mineral makeup was the "holy grail" she had been searching for since she was 13.
That's when she founded her company, Larenim (mineral spelled backward!)
Kirsten founded Larenim in 2004 and put to market one of the purest and most aesthetically pleasing cosmetics lines available. Right of the starting gate Larenim grew at incredible rate, finding placement in nearly 1000 natural product stores in the US, Canada, UK, Germany and Hong Kong within 2 years.
She sold Larenim in December 2006 to one of the largest and most reputable companies in the Natural Product’s Industry but stayed on as the Product Manager. "I continue to oversee the development of the products and act as spokeswoman for Larenim. I also enjoy life raising my 5 teens, running my health food and supplement store and having beautiful, healthy skin", says Kirsten.

Non-Surgical treatments for wrinkles or scarring Dr. Bryan McIntosh
Saturday Aug 18, 2012
Saturday Aug 18, 2012
Dr. Bryan McIntosh, a solo plastic surgeon in private practice in Bellevue, Washington joins eHealth Radio's Plastic Surgery Information Channel. Dr. McIntosh completed residencies in general surgery, burn and wound surgery, and plastic and reconstructive surgery.
Listen to interview [audio player below] with host Eric Michaels & guest Dr. Bryan McIntosh discuss the following:
What do plastic surgeons know now about skin care that they didn't know in the past?
What should everyone be using to care for their skin?
Bring some clarity to the various laser types of treatments that are available.
What non-surgical treatments are there for wrinkles or scarring?
What role does plastic surgery play in all of this?
About Dr. Bryan McIntosh
When I went to Seattle Pacific University in the fall of 1992, I was going to be a chemical engineer. A week and a half later, my plans changed. I fell in love with the Russian language and culture, traveled to Europe for two quarters while at SPU, and graduated with a bachelor's degree in European Studies with an emphasis in Russian. All throughout this time, I took the chemistry, biology, and physics classes all premedical students take, making the Dean's List as most Type A premedical students do. I spent a large amount of my time during college and for over a year after graduation at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and Virginia Mason Research Center. Combatting cancer in the laboratory was fascinating, but it was too far removed from real life for me to commit my own life to it.
I moved to St. Louis, Missouri in 1998 to attend medical school at St. Louis University. I was on my way to becoming a pediatrician. I've always loved kids, having cared for many little cousins and my own sister, changing many a diaper along the way. A couple years into the four-year program, I realized tackling a problem and fixing it at the source with my hands was far more gratifying. Surgery was my new path, and there has been no looking back.
New Haven, Connecticut was my new home for the next five years as I completed a general surgery residency with a major teaching affiliate hospital of Yale University. I went to Long Island, New York for a one year fellowship in burn and wound reconstruction at Nassau University Medical Center. The following two years were spent intensively training with the amazing plastic surgeons at Long Island Plastic Surgical Group, the oldest and largest group of plastic surgeons in the United States.
I could never commit to learning just one focused, specific thing. That would lose my interest too quickly. That's one reason why plastic surgery is such a perfect field for me. I can see very old adults, very young children, and everyone in between. Surgeries involve skin, muscles, bones, tendons, nerves, vessels, and various prosthetics. One plastic surgical problem never has just one solution, and it's always nice to have options. The experiences I've had throughout life, in college and medical school, in the U.S. and many other countries, have afforded me a unique ability to view one problem from many angles and come up with several solutions. I love shedding new light on situations with my patients, educating them as to the various options they have, offering hope and opportunity to achieve their goals.
