Jennifer Ernst, CEO & Co-founder at Tivic Health, a bioelectronic medical device company devoted to harnessing the power of neuromodulation to help empower those suffering from chronic conditions joins eHealth Radio and the Health News Channel.
Listen to interview with host Eric Michaels & guest Jennifer Ernst discuss the following:
Millions of people experience pain every day and many of them turn to medication for relief. Tell me about the field of microcurrent and bioelectronics and its role in pain management.
What inspired you to pursue creating a bioelectronic device using microcurrent to relief sinus pain?
How does ClearUP™ Sinus Pain Relief work?
You recently completed a clinical trial exploring the efficacy of ClearUP™ Sinus Pain Relief, tell us about the results.
When do you expect to receive FDA clearance on ClearUP™ Sinus Pain Relief and where will people be able to purchase the device?
Jennifer Ernst is CEO at Tivic HealthTM Systems Inc. in Menlo Park, CA. Her career in technology has been characterized by driving transformational technology to market. She began her career at Xerox PARC in Palo Alto, one of the world’s leading research laboratories, focused on getting technology out of the lab and into the market. She held varying roles in strategic business development, marketing and sales. Ernst holds an MBA from Santa Clara University, graduating with Honors.
For the past 15 years, Jennifer has dedicated herself to identifying and building global businesses out of cutting-edge technologies. Prior to founding Tivic Health, she served as Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Chief Strategy Officer, and CEO of the US subsidiary of Thin Film Electronics. Of note, she launched early electronic labels which led to the company winning the Wall Street Innovation Award and the World Technology Award. In addition, as part of the company’s executive management, Ernst transformed the company from an 8-person R&D company to a recognized leader in printed electronics with a peak market cap of $480MM in less than 5 years.
Ernst’s ability to recognize unmet market needs led her to co-found Tivic Health in 2016 with biomedical engineer and inventor, John Claude. She recognized the potential of yet another new technology, bioelectronic medicine, and a rapidly growing segment of the projected $6.2 billion market size of the neuromodulation industry by 2020. (1) She saw the potential to help the 34MM Americans with chronic sinusitis (2) and 22 million adults who suffer from allergic rhinitis each year. (3) Whereas neuromodulation and bioelectronic medicine have historically been used in implantable devices, the team saw the potential for packaging a powerful pain relief technique into a simple-to-use handheld device. The company’s product, ClearUPTM Sinus Pain Relief, delivers sinus pain relief without pharmaceuticals or nasal flushing, addressing a significant unmet clinical need.

Dr. Christine Goertz, who is the senor scientific advisor for the American Chiropractic Association as well as chairperson of ACA’s Committee on Quality Assurance and Accountability again joins eHealth Radio and the Chiropractor & Health News Channels. ACA represents members of the chiropractic profession nationwide and advocates for issues that are important to chiropractors and their patients.
Listen to interview with host Eric Michaels and guest Dr. Christine Goertz discuss the following:
Shared decision making is a hot topic in health care circles. Can you explain to us what is meant by shared decision making, and what is the American Chiropractic Association doing to promote it?
Tell us about ACA’s Choosing Wisely recommendations. The first one is about X-ray use for low back pain. I understand it’s one of the most widely adopted recommendations by groups participating in the Choosing Wisely program.
Your recommendations also address X-ray for charting progress. What should patients be aware of?
There are two recommendations that are similar – one is about the use of physical therapy modalities and another about the use of back supports without an active treatment plan. Can’t these things on their own provide relief?
We have a very bad problem with opioid overuse and abuse in this country, and one of the biggest reasons why opioids are prescribed is for low back pain. What do patients need to know if they are experiencing chronic low back pain?
Christine Goertz, DC, PhD, is the Chief Operating Officer of the Spine Institute for Quality. She is also President of Christine Goertz LLC and an Adjunct Associate at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Duke University Medical Center.
Prior to joining Spine Institute for Quality, she was vice chancellor of research and health policy at Palmer College of Chiropractic for 11 years. Her 25-year research career has focused on working with multidisciplinary teams to design and implement clinical and health services research studies designed to increase knowledge about the effectiveness and cost of complementary and integrative healthcare delivery. She has extensive experience in the administration of federal grants, both as a principal investigator and as a program official at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Goertz has received more than $30 million in federal funding as an investigator, primarily from NIH and the Department of Defense. Her areas of focus include the investigation of manual therapies for spine-related disorders, and integrative healthcare for cardiovascular disease. Goertz serves on the Board of Governors for the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, where she has assumed numerous leadership roles, and is a member of the NIH/NCCIH National Advisory Council. She also chairs the American Chiropractic Association’s Committee on Quality Assurance and Accountability.
Goertz received her Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Northwestern Health Sciences University and her PhD in health services research, policy and administration from the University of Minnesota.

Listen to interview with host Eric Michaels and guest Dr. Robert Hayden discuss the following:
We hear a lot about how physical activity can benefit our cardiovascular system, help us lose weight and get fit. But how does movement help our bones, muscles and joints—also known as the musculoskeletal system?
Why does moving get harder as we age? Can we prevent or slow down the aging process on our bones, muscles and joints?
In your experience, what are the top reasons why people aren’t moving more?
For years we were told to restrict physical activity when we had back pain. Why was that bad advice? How does movement help people heal?
How can people get moving? What are some of the best activities for those who may be largely inactive right now?
Dr. Robert Hayden maintains a private practice in Griffin, Georgia, just south of Atlanta. Dr. Hayden is a past president of the Georgia Chiropractic Association and was named the organization’s "Chiropractor of the Year" in 2006.

Simplifying foot taping to provide optimal arch support and pain relief
Wednesday Sep 05, 2018
Wednesday Sep 05, 2018
Lori Coates, Founder of the QUICK TAPE Foot Support Strap, designed by Coates and her son Chris, that implifies foot taping to provide optimal arch support and pain relief in a single, easy-to-use strap joins eHealth Radio and the Foot Health and Health News Channels.
Listen to interview with host Eric Michaels and guest Lori Coates discuss the following:
What exactly is plantar fasciitis, what causes it and are certain people more prone to it?
Why is plantar fasciitis so notoriously hard to treat?
What treatment methods are available, and how well do they work?
What can someone do to prevent plantar fasciitis?
How does the QUICK TAPE strap work?
Lori Coates is the Founder of Support the Foot and co-inventor of the QUICK TAPE Foot Support Strap, an innovative, easy-to-apply product that provides instant support and fast relief from plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, shin splints, and other types of foot and ankle pain. After doctors had told Lori’s son Chris that surgery was the only option to treat his severe plantar fasciitis, Chris and Lori consulted with a podiatrist, who taped his foot as a temporary measure. Much to their surprise, Chris experienced dramatic relief just from the taping. While taping worked, it was a tedious, time-consuming process to tape Chris’s foot every day. Lori and Chris set out to design a simpler, more comfortable alternative that would provide the same level of relief as foot taping done at a podiatrist’s office. Support The Foot was born, with QUICK TAPE as its flagship product.Based on the clinically proven Low Dye taping method, QUICK TAPE straps dramatically simplify the foot taping process, letting patients tape their own feet effectively at home without the time and expense of a trip to the podiatrist. Each strap is made from durable medical grade cloth athletic tape and can be applied in a matter of seconds. Since launching Support The Foot in 2016, podiatrists, sports medicine doctors and athletic trainers in 19 states and 4 countries have incorporated QUICK TAPE into their practices.
QUICK TAPE Foot Support Straps are also available for online purchase at www.supportthefoot.com.

Sepi Aeen, MPT, Owner and Founder of From the Heart Physical therapy, specializing in Myofascial Release joins eHealth Radio and the Health News and Physical Therapy Channels to help you find the missing-link to a pain-free life with Myofascial Release.
Listen to interview with host Eric Michaels & guest Sepi Aeen discuss the following:
What is Myofascial Release Therapy?
What is fascia and what causes fascial restrictions?
How is this different/better than traditional physical therapy?
Does Myofascial Release target only the physical aspects of pain or emotional as well?
What are some common conditions that can be treated for men, women & children?
Sepi Aeen is a graduate of California State University Northridge (CSUN). She holds two Bachelor degrees in Health Education and Physical Therapy and a Master's degree in Physical Therapy. She is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and is licensed in the State of California since 1997.
Sepi has worked in the field of Physical therapy since 1989. She has practiced in several outpatient, orthopedic and hospital settings. She opened her own private outpatient practice in September 1999 in order to provide her patients with the high quality, individualized treatment that they deserve. It didn't take long for Sepi to realize there was limited improvement with her patients using conventional physical therapy. She attended many continuing education courses and seminars in order to improve her ability to help her patients. It wasn't until she discovered John Barnes' Myofascial Release (MFR) Approach® in 2001 that she found her passion and purpose in life. Since then she has completed over 1,000 hours of MFR seminars nationwide, and as an instructor has assisted in advanced seminars with John F. Barnes and his team. Sepi continues to attend MFR seminars as well as educate her patients and therapists on the benefits of MFR. Physicians affiliated with Cedars Sinai, USC and Providence Tarzana Hospitals have asked Sepi to speak on the benefits of Myofascial Release.
Over the next eight years, she envisioned a peaceful and serene healing center for her patients. After a long search, she found her desired location. The residential space is a shining gem in the midst of a stressful, fast-paced and busy city in Los Angeles.
In March of 2011, twelve years after opening her first practice, Sepi realized her long term dream of opening an MFR healing center. Sepi became the founder and president of From the Heart Physical Therapy, Inc., the only Myofascial Release Treatment Center in Los Angeles County.
From The Heart Physical Therapy is an authentic and positively energized place of healing where everyone is treated with love and respect. Sepi and her team are dedicated to helping each patient return to a balanced and healthy life they deserve.
