For over 60 years, Harvest of the Sea has been a pioneer and world leader in high quality, innovative seafood products, reflecting the core values of founder Bill Shinbane and his family that continue to drive industry standards today.
At the helm of Harvest of the Sea is President and CEO Mark Shinbane who assumed leadership of the company in 2004. Mark’s journey to the top position began as many do in family-owned businesses – at the bottom, working his way up at every level of the company’s operations. As a boy, Mark started with sweeping floors and continued year-after-year to learn every aspect of the business: unloading trucks in the warehouse, manning the production line, working in the Quality Assurance lab and studying the complexities of importing and manufacturing.
By the time Mark graduated from University of California, Los Angeles with a B.S. in Economics and Accounting, he also had the equivalent of a “degree” in seafood manufacturing. After a brief stint at an accounting firm, he agreed to join Harvest of the Sea and work full-time with his father. Mark’s accounting and technological acumen benefitted the company at a critical time in its expansion, bringing new systems and processes to the firm that kept the company on a steady growth track. Today, Harvest of the Sea is a multi-million-dollar seafood supplier to some of the country’s best-known retailers and restaurant operators.
Throughout his career, Mark and his team of culinary specialists have focused on delivering unique, high-value and innovative products to consumers – seafood dishes that are not only delicious but easy for anyone to prepare. It’s a winning formula that has enabled Mark to grow the firm despite intermittent industry challenges and the country’s ever-changing economic cycles.
When he is not solving problems and developing new products with his creative team and overseas partners, Mark relaxes with his passion for audio and music and spends time with his family attending concerts, sporting events, hiking and traveling. Additionally, he enjoys sports cars and driving the many scenic roads throughout Los Angeles and up the Pacific Coast. Mark is also a widely respected and active member of local business groups. For the past 6 years, he has been the Chairman of the L.A. Downtown Industrial Business Improvement District and an active member of his local business association for over 30 years.
