- What is one message you would like to send to readers?
- What's next for the two of you?
- Where can listeners get the book?
Florence Strang is a Registered Psychologist, Horticultural Therapist, and owner of a small business, Therapeutic Gardening, which combines her love of gardening with her love of counselling. She is the single mother to three children: 17 year old Kaitlyn, 15 year old Donovan and 7 year old Ben. Not only is Florence a single mom, but she is also an autism mom, as her youngest son, Ben, has severe autism.
As you can imagine, Florence is no stranger to facing challenges. However in April, 2011, she was confronted with the biggest challenge of her life: stage 3 breast cancer. Not only did she hit the floor running in her battle with cancer, but in the process she inspired thousands of people through her blog, The Perks of Having Cancer (www.perksofcancer.com).
Florence’s story of battling cancer with an unwavering faith and an unbeatable positive attitude is told in Woman’s World Magazine and Chicken Soup for the Soul: The Power of Positive. In August of this year, she will travel to Nashville Tennessee for the official launch of her book: 100 Perks of Having Cancer Plus 100 Health Tips for Surviving It, co-written with Susan Gonzalez. It is her mission to teach others that cancer does not have to be viewed as a death sentence. It is possible to live a healthy and a happy lifestyle following a cancer diagnosis.
Susan Gonzalez, RN, BSN has been educating people on the benefits of a healthy lifestyle since graduating with honors from Molloy College in New York in 1986. She is a Registered Nurse in the states of New York and Georgia and received extensive additional training in Cardiac Rehabilitation, nutrition, stress management, and smoking cessation.
Since beginning her nursing career, Susan has developed and implemented dozens of health related educational programs; first as director of Dekalb Hospital’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Program in Georgia and then as assistant to one of the top preventative cardiologists in the country. In addition, she has personally counseled hundreds of patients on creating and meeting their own healthy lifestyle goals.
As a warrior against cancer causing ingredients in personal care products, Susan launched her own all-natural organic skincare line, MOON Organics LLC in 2010. As developer and CEO she continues to expand the line, catering to the needs of those going through treatment for cancer. She was featured as one of The Story Exchange’s “inspirational women” in 2012.
Susan’s mission is to take what she’s learned and pass that knowledge to others. She currently does that in her blog “The Savvy Sister: simple changes for healthy living”. Having been a patient as well as a health care provider, gives Susan a unique perspective on health issues and this motivates her to produce accurate blog articles with well-cited research. She advocates natural healing and is a strong believer that we must take full responsibility for our own health and wellness in all areas of life: diet, exercise, spirituality, as well as self worth and social health.
Susan hopes to reach more cancer survivors, family members, and others affected by cancer with her co-authored book “100 Perks of Having Cancer plus 100 Health Tips for Surviving It”. Susan, along with co-author and clinical psychologist Florence Strang, give readers a hard look at cancer with a positive slant. Touching on every aspect of health, the authors give hope along with easy health tips for living healthier and happier no matter what your stage of cancer.
The web-based program, Cancer Plan 4 Life, picks up where the book leaves off and gives cancer patients a 4 week day-to-day guide to help them achieve optimal health.
“100 Perks of Having Cancer plus 100 Health Tips for Surviving It” is due to be released in all major book stores in the USA and Canada in August 2013 with the Cancer Plan 4 Life web program following close behind it.
