Lolita in the Lion's Den, from Abuse to Empowerment
Justin Forest, a sexuality researcher and the author of Lolita in the Lion's Den, from Abuse to Empowerment joins eHealth Radio and the Children's Health, Education & Family Information Channels.
Listen to interview with host Eric Michaels & guest Justin Forest discuss the following:
- Why did you decide to write Lolita in the Lion's Den and what is the book about?
- Glen's bluntness about his sexual feelings as well as his concern for the sexualization of girls today seem contrary to what we hear about actual offenders or pedophiles. How realistic is this?
- How is society's inability to address such a taboo topic, in your opinion, harmful to everyone?
- Glen notes that management of his sexuality is the key, not the concept of changing it. Can you elaborate on this?
- How has your book been received?
TIP: Parents - if you want to protect your kids - here's the demand you should be making. Ask for more sex education, starting in preschool. What we need is a much better understanding of human sexuality, throughout all points of life. We cannot change the negative stigma associated with sexuality and kids easily, but we can educate and learn. I think it’s a reasonable assumption that if we all understood our sexuality better, even if “deviant,” we might be much better citizens. We should guide boys and girls to understand what it means to have positive relationships instead of locking them into stereotypical gender roles. After all, sex is going to come into the equation sooner or later. Let them — and us — be prepared.
