Patrick Dati who has now broken his silence and has written a memoir about the abuse and bullying he endured from an older brother throughout his childhood and adult life joins the show.
Listen to interview with host Eric Michaels & guest Patrick Dati discuss the following:
When you were 9 years old, what happened in the department store? What happened when you got home?
What was your childhood like?
When you experienced physical abuse by your brother, what did your parents do to intervene?
Do you think the violence in your past has had an effect on relationship choices in your adult life?
What do you feel new and expecting parents most need to know about what it takes to stop the cycles of family violence?
What do you think needs to happen for family violence to be reduced or ended in the United States?
As someone who recently has taken on advocacy, what does this work mean to you, in your recovery?
Patrick has now broken his silence and has written a memoir about the abuse and bullying he endured from an older brother throughout his childhood and adult life. The memoir is also a torturous coming out story of a man raised in the midst of a devout Catholic family whose members he loved and spent years trying to please by realizing their dreams for him. He attempted suicide twice, and found freedom and himself one day in three simple words: “I have survived.”
In living to please others, Patrick married twice and today is the proud father of a beautiful and loving 16 year old daughter. Recently, he met a man he loves and is now sharing his life with his partner. Now an advocate for several organizations devoted to preventing childhood abuse and bullying. Available as a public speaker to help victims of abuse and bullying.
Patrick graduated with a BA in Broadcast Communications from Columbia College in Chicago.

Eradicating hatred and bullying in all its forms
with Gabriella van Rij
Gabriella van Rij who is the author of "With All My Might" and the founder of "We Open Doors" joins the show to discuss the issue of "bullying".
Listen to interview with host Eric Michaels & guest Gabriella van Rij discuss the following:
You have an amazing life-story. You were born in Pakistan but adopted by a Dutch family. While international adoptions are almost routine now, in the 1960’s this was very unusual. What was it like being multi-cultural before that was even really a term?
You have recently written a book that offers your insight into a wide variety of cultural issues titled With All My Might. What is that Gabriella van Rij does with all her might?
Many times we find that as we attempt to be ourselves it brings condemnation. Again quoting Emerson, he said “for nonconformity the world whips you with its displeasure.” You talk at length about bullying in your book. We often associate bullying with kids but you talk about how it continues in various forms throughout life. What are some other examples of bullying? What other masks does it wear?
How do we, as a society, take steps to eradicate such things?
Besides merely writing about topics such as bullying, what are you and your team undertaking?
You talk a great deal about your self identity and accepting who you are in the book. In a sentence, tell us who is Gabriella van Rij?
How can individuals interested in your book purchase it?
For those interested how can they contact you or follow what you are doing or schedule you to speak for their organization or event?
Gabriella van Rij, author of With All My Might, is a woman with one foot in the culture of the East and one in the West. Born in Pakistan and adopted into a Dutch family Gabriella knows what it is like to be an outcast and to question her own identity. She is also a woman of singular purpose and passion. She is fueled by a desire to educate and to eradicate hatred, intolerance, racism, and prejudice. Gabriella dares to live, to love, to give and to be passionate with every aspect of her life and she encourages us to do the same.
